‘Not Good News’ – Barcelona President Reacts To Mbappe’s Real Madrid Move

Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke to the media about the club’s disappointing season, the managerial change, and the transfer of Kylian Mbappé to arch rivals Real Madrid.

Laporta was questioned about the delay in introducing new manager Hansi Flick to the media.

It has been confirmed that former manager Xavi Hernández will not have a farewell press conference, as he bid farewell to supporters ahead of the last league match.

Laporta made the decision to dismiss Xavi despite the manager’s agreement to continue for another season. Initially, it seemed Xavi would depart at season’s end, but the 44-year-old coach expressed a desire to stay.

While Laporta initially agreed, he later reversed the decision and relieved Xavi of his duties. In an interview with Barça One, Laporta revealed that his decision was influenced by Xavi’s statements about the team to the press.

Laporta stated, “Xavi expressed trust in the team, but certain statements seemed contradictory. This prompted a reassessment on my part, and I felt a change was necessary, a sentiment echoed by the board.”

Acknowledging Xavi’s contributions, Laporta emphasized the need for change considering the team’s performance.

He opted for Hansi Flick to rejuvenate the squad, ending Xavi’s tenure gracefully with the club’s appreciation.

Regarding Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid, Laporta admitted it wasn’t ideal for Barcelona.

However, he expressed confidence in the club’s young talents from La Masia, believing they can restore Barcelona’s former glory.

Laporta emphasized Barcelona’s commitment to their philosophy despite respecting their rivals.
