The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a cautionary notice concerning the appropriate handling of Naphthalene-based products, clarifying that they are recognized as insecticides in Ghana.
In an announcement made on Tuesday, June 4, the FDA underscored the importance of using these products solely for their designated purposes and strictly following the guidelines outlined on their labels.
According to the FDA, labels affixed to Naphthalene products registered in Ghana contain explicit warnings and precautions, advising users to keep them away from children, food, water, and sources of fire due to their flammable nature.
Specific labeling requirements have been prescribed by the Authority for Naphthalene-containing items, including directions for usage and proper storage procedures.
The FDA emphasized that improper utilization of these products could lead to adverse effects, while adhering meticulously to the provided instructions would ensure their safe application.
Urging compliance with labeling instructions for Naphthalene products and other chemical substances, the FDA stressed its commitment to collaborating with relevant agencies to promote the secure and responsible usage of such products in Ghana.
The FDA’s statement clarified: “In Ghana, the FDA has registered Naphthalene-containing products for use as insecticides.
The FDA wishes to inform the public that labels on registered Naphthalene products in Ghana contain sufficient information on their proper use, warnings, and cautions. These products should not come into contact with children or food, including water, and as a flammable material, should be kept away from fire.”
