Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minority Leader in Parliament, has raised allegations against the Bank of Ghana (BoG), claiming that it is constructing a new multi-million dollar residence for its Governor.
This assertion comes amidst the demolition of the BoG Clinic at Ridge in Accra to make space for the purported new building.
Expressing his concerns on social media, Dr. Ato Forson, a former Deputy Finance Minister, questioned the timing and necessity of this project, particularly in light of the central bank’s recent financial struggles.
BoG reported substantial losses in 2023, raising doubts about the prudence of investing in such extravagant projects.
According to Ato Forson, the focus should be on stabilizing the bank’s finances rather than indulging in luxury accommodations for its officials.
He called for greater transparency and accountability in the bank’s expenditure decisions, emphasizing the need to prioritize core functions over unnecessary projects.
However, a source close to the matter refuted the claims, stating that the building in question is an old facility being repurposed and not specifically for the Governor.
The source also pointed out that the current Governor is in their final term, casting doubt on the necessity of building a new residence.
