The Supreme Court has postponed its decision on the controversial Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, until July 29, 2024.
Lawyers representing the petitioner, Paul Boama-Sefa, have been ordered to submit their written arguments within four weeks. The Speaker of Parliament, who is the defendant in the case, is also expected to respond within the same timeframe.
In a related development, the Judiciary Service announced on Monday that it will allow live media coverage of all cases related to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill. This decision follows an earlier ruling by the Chief Justice permitting the livestreaming of Richard Sky’s injunction application on the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill at the Supreme Court.
To date, four cases have been filed in various courts regarding the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, with two cases scheduled to be heard at the High Court and the other two at the Supreme Court.
