FC Samartex have achieved the unthinkable, clinching the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title just a year after earning promotion from the lower division.
Their triumph came after defeating Bibiani GoldStars on Sunday.
This historic victory marks a new chapter for the club. With two matches remaining in the season, defeats for Aduana and Medeama SC sealed Samartex’s fate as champions.
The crucial goal came from Emmanuel Mamah just before halftime, sending the Nsenkyire Stadium into a frenzy.
The match was briefly delayed due to heavy rain, but after a pitch inspection, the second half kicked off and secured Samartex’s place in Ghanaian football history.
This win is particularly significant as it breaks a long-standing trend. No team has defended their Ghana Premier League title since Asante Kotoko in 2014.
Samartex also joins the ranks of prestigious Western Region clubs like Sekondi Eleven Wise, Hasaacas, and Medeama SC who have lifted the trophy.
Their path to glory wasn’t without challenges. Over 32 matches, Samartex secured 18 wins, drew four, and faced 10 defeats, demonstrating their resilience and determination.
