Man Charged With Attempted Murder of Pregnant Wife in Oti Region
Ibrahim Anas, a 42-year-old man, has been remanded in prison by the Dambai Magistrate Court for inflicting multiple cutlass wounds on his pregnant wife. He is scheduled to reappear before the court on June 14, 2024, to face charges of attempted murder.
According to Prosecutor Detective Chief Inspector S.K. Gavor, the incident occurred on May 28, 2024, on a farm in Banda, Krachi Nchumuru District. The Police received a distressed call around 0800 hours from a concerned citizen, reporting a woman screaming for help in the bush. Upon arriving at the scene, the Police found the victim in a pool of blood, with multiple deep cutlass cuts on her stomach, forehead, mouth, shoulder, and hands.
The victim, who is currently in a critical condition, was rushed to Banda Health Centre for intensive care and later referred to Kpandai Polyclinic in the Northern Region for further treatment. The suspect, Ibrahim Anas, was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody.
During his caution statement, Anas admitted to committing the crime, attributing his actions to “Satan and his fallen angels.” “I was influenced by Satan and his fallen angels,” he said, in a bizarre justification for his brutal actions.
The court, presided over by Dramani Alhassan, has remanded Anas in prison pending further investigation and trial. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for swift justice to be served.
