Afronita and Abigail Dance Their Way to Britain’s Got Talent Final

Ghanaian dancing duo Afronita and Abigail sent the audience and fans at home into a frenzy with their electrifying performance on Britain’s Got Talent on Thursday. The pair, comprising 20-year-old dance teacher Afronita and her 7-year-old protégée Abigail, won the public vote and secured a spot in Sunday’s final.

Their Azonto routine, a traditional Ghanaian dance and music genre, to Brighter Days by Sigala, left the Eventim Apollo audience in awe, with deafening cheers that almost drowned out the judges’ feedback. Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli were visibly impressed, with Simon revealing that he believed the duo could be in with a chance of winning the competition.

“I think what is happening behind me [the deafening cheers] is more important than what I say,” Simon said. “When you’ve got it, you’ve got it. I thought last night ‘Yeah, I’ve got a feeling I know who’s going to win the show this year,’ and I’ve just changed my mind.”

Afronita and Abigail’s performance was met with a standing ovation, with Alesha Dixon praising their “natural sauce, flavor, personality, and joy” on stage. Afronita expressed her gratitude, saying, “I feel blessed… to see the audience on their feet, the judges happy. It’s crazy. And I know she feels the same way [gesturing to Abigail].”

Viewers at home echoed the audience’s enthusiasm, with many taking to social media to praise the duo’s talent and joy. As one viewer wrote, “Hope they make the final! Not only very talented dancers, they make you want to get up and dance with them. So joyful Abigail and Afronita.”
