The Forum for Accountability and Justice (FAAJ) has called for the dismissal of the Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr. Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, over the controversial sale of SSNIT hotels to Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.
FAAJ expressed alarm and concern over Osafo-Maafo’s “total disregard and disrespectful conduct” regarding the sale, despite knowing about the petition filed by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
SSNIT acknowledged the petition in a statement on May 19, 2024, and promised to cooperate with CHRAJ’s investigation. However, FAAJ noted that Osafo-Maafo has defied the pendency of the case and continued with the sale process, despite calls from various groups to halt it.
Ghana’s organized labor, led by Dr. Yaw Baah and Dr. Isaac Bampoe Addo, condemned the sale and called for its immediate cessation, threatening a strike if the sale proceeds. Several other individuals and groups have also called for the abolition of the deal.
FAAJ learned that Osafo-Maafo has been preoccupied with selling off SSNIT hotels to party cronies since his promotion to the top position, despite alleged irregularities and unconstitutional processes involved.
The forum views Osafo-Maafo’s actions as a predetermined attempt to capture the state of SSNIT as part of a grand scheme of state-capture, which must be resisted by all well-meaning Ghanaians.
FAAJ calls on the appointing authorities to dismiss Osafo-Maafo as SSNIT Director General with immediate effect and stop the sale of the hotels against the interest of the people of Ghana.
The forum warns that failure to act on their call will embolden the perceived “Clearing Agent” tag and undermine accountability and justice.
FAAJ serves notice of its intention to collaborate with individuals and groups to engage in demonstrations demanding accountability and justice in the interest of Ghana.
The forum urges the President to take action and not refuse their call, which is echoed by many well-meaning Ghanaians, to ensure accountability and justice prevail.
