Seven days after the gruesome discovery of two headless bodies in the bush, residents of Maame Krobo Nkwanta in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region are living in fear.
The bodies of the two herdsmen, found with gunshot wounds on their backs, had been decapitated, with some body parts missing. The District Chief Executive Officer, Evans Kyei Ntiri, described the incident as “very disturbing” and “very sad”.
Speaking to the media on May 30, Ntiri said, “Barely a week today, between the hours of 5am and 7, we heard the incident where two herdsmen in Kwapong Nkwanta, a community near Maame Krobo were killed and beheaded by unknown persons.”
The assembly member of the area reported the incident to the police, and later, the district commander, along with community members and the families of the deceased, transported the bodies to the Presbyterian Hospital mortuary.
Ntiri emphasized that the district does not support such acts and has engaged with the communities and bereaved families to assure them of a thorough investigation. “We have also asked them to help in the investigation, not only the Fulani community but the surrounding communities and the entire populace to help us investigate the matter.”
To prevent retaliatory attacks, more police officers and military personnel have been deployed, and the District Security Council (DISEC) will convene to discuss strategies to apprehend the perpetrators. Ntiri assured the community of full security, stating, “As we speak, 80 men have been deployed. Our usual police men are on grounds working very hard on their usual patrols.”
He appealed to the Fulani community to remain calm and help gather information, assuring them of a full investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
