During his first tenure, Otto Addo secured four wins, four draws, and four losses, including the team’s World Cup campaign, where they recorded a single win and lost twice to bow out of the Group Stage. Despite this, Addo believes that his team showed promising signs of good football.
Addo’s playing style is centered around possession-based football, quick transitions, and attacking flair, which he believes is the key to success in modern football. “What I want to hear assessed on is the way we play. The way we play. And I think we showed, even though we went out, when we played Nigeria the first time I came, we played good football, not just offensively, but also defensively,” Addo said in a recent interview.
Addo added, “Even at the World Cup, we had good phases where we played good football, and this is what I want to have permanent in every game. We need to be consistent in our playing style, and I believe that will bring us success.”
Meanwhile, Addo stepped down after failing to qualify Ghana beyond the Group Stage of the World Cup to resume his talent coaching role at Dortmund, where he has been instrumental in developing some of Germany’s top young players.
He has, however, returned to take over from Chris Hughton, who served as Technical Advisor for the team during Addo’s first stint, and is tasked with redeeming the team’s lost form and leading them to success in the upcoming qualifiers.
