Interdict Attorney General Now – Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor Roars
- Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor demands interdiction of AG
- He said the AG has meddled in matters of prejudice
- The ambulance case involves Ato Forson and one other person
The MP for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has vehemently demanded an immediate interdiction of the embattled Attorney General (AG), Godfred Yeboah Dame.
According to him, the AG has meddled in matters of prejudice and does not qualify to stay in office.
Commenting on a viral recorded audio between Richard Jakpa, a 3rd Accused person in the ambulance case and AG, Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Lawmaker fumed that the conduct of the AG is the opposite of his job responsibilities and is therefore unfit to be in office.
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor explained that the act of the AG is tantamount to committing a crime of ‘interfering with a witness’ and should be behind bars now.
Press Conference
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah revealed that the party has obtained evidence supporting Richard Jakpa’s claim that Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame engaged him to testify against Minority Leader Dr. Ato Forson in the ongoing ambulance trial.
Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Asiedu Nketiah stated that this evidence suggests a plan by the Attorney General to secure a conviction against Dr. Forson, contrary to Jakpa’s knowledge and beliefs.
The party claims to possess recordings of the Attorney General coaching Jakpa to provide false testimony against the Minority Leader.
Richard Jakpa testified in court that the Attorney General (A-G) had approached him on multiple occasions, requesting his cooperation to testify against Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader and former Deputy Finance Minister.
Suspicion
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor believes that the ambulance case involving former Finance Minister and Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and one other person is a huge case.
The two are standing trial for allegedly causing a financial loss of €2.37 million to the state over an ambulance deal.
He criticized Attorney General Mr. Dame’s handling of the case over the past four years, suggesting that it shows a lack of understanding and potentially undermines the credibility of the Attorney General’s office.
Public Reaction
Following the bombshell, however, some Ghanaians particularly lawyers and political parties are demanding that the AG resigns.
Former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa- Asare speaking to the media said, President Akufo-Addo “doesn’t have the political will” to fire Godfred Dame for his handling of Minority Leader, Ato Forson’s ambulance case.
He adds that there’s been a history of appointees being let off the hook for several wrongs in the current administration.
However, the Attorney General has already denied any allegations leveled against him.
