The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, is calling on the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to provide transparency regarding the sale of its shares in four hotels to Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Food and Agriculture.
SSNIT is nearing the completion of selling 60% of its shares in the Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, and Labadi Beach Hotel to Rock City Hotel, owned by Dr. Acheampong.
Amidst concerns of potential conflicts of interest, MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has petitioned CHRAJ to investigate the transaction.
Afenyo-Markin emphasizes the importance of SSNIT releasing detailed documentation on the deal to the public, asserting that transparency is paramount.
He highlights the necessity for SSNIT to not only clarify this specific decision but also to provide explanations for other failing investments to the public.
In his plea, Afenyo-Markin emphasizes that this is not a political issue but a matter of accountability and transparency. He believes that with proper explanation, stakeholders such as the TUC and other labor unions will be able to discern the substance of the deal beyond its surface appearances.
