Parliament to Reconvene on June 11 to Discuss Rising Matters
Parliament is set to reconvene on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, after a brief recess, according to a statement issued by Speaker Alban Bagbin on Monday, May 27.
The Speaker, exercising his authority under Order 58 of the standing orders of Parliament, announced that the third meeting of the fourth session of the eighth Parliament will commence at 10:00 a.m. at Parliament House, Accra.
One of the key issues on the agenda is the government’s proposal to grant approximately $335,072,712.13 in tax exemptions to 42 companies participating in the One District One Factory initiative. The Exemptions Act, 2022 (Act 1083), which facilitates these tax breaks, was first presented to Parliament by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in 2022.
The Act aims to support the government’s industrialisation efforts by providing financial relief to companies involved in the initiative. During the resumption of Parliament, members will deliberate on this critical issue, among others, as they assess the potential impact of these tax exemptions on the national economy.
