A devastating fire swept through a commercial area in Ayigya, Oforikrom Municipality, Ashanti Region, on Monday evening, leaving four shops in ruins. The blaze, which erupted around 7 PM, prompted a swift response from emergency services.

Three fire engines from Chirapatre, KMA, and Manhyia stations were dispatched to the scene to contain the inferno and prevent further spread. According to DO2 Nicholas Poku Antwi, in charge of regional operations at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the prompt deployment of fire engines averted a more widespread disaster.

Despite the extensive damage to the shops, no casualties were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities working to determine the origin of the blaze and assess the total damage.

“The fire engulfed four shops, but we were able to tackle it and bring it under control,” said DO2 Antwi. “Fire engines from KMA, Manhyia, and Chirapatre responded to the scene, and we were able to salvage more items than were damaged. Fortunately, nobody was injured.”

The fire officer added that a thorough investigation, including excavation, would be conducted to determine the actual cause of the fire.
