Everton Eyes Loan Deals For Phillips and Harrison To Bolster Squad
- Everton is looking to bolster their midfield and attack
- The Toffees are interested in acquiring Phillips
- Kevin Thelwell acknowledged the need to sell players
Everton is looking to bolster their midfield and attack through loan signings this summer, with Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips and Leeds United’s Jack Harrison emerging as targets.
Phillips Seeks Redemption on Loan
The Toffees are interested in acquiring 28-year-old midfielder Phillips on a season-long loan. Phillips’ move to City from Leeds in 2022 for £45 million hasn’t gone according to plan.
He struggled for playing time and was shipped out on loan to West Ham for the second half of last season.
Having been a key member of England’s squad that reached the Euro 2020 final, Phillips now finds himself out of favor under Gareth Southgate and missed out on selection for this summer’s tournament. A loan spell at Everton could offer him a chance to regain his form and impress potential long-term suitors.
Harrison Returns for Another Loan Stint?
Everton is also in talks to bring back winger Jack Harrison, 27, on another loan deal from Championship side Leeds. Harrison impressed during his loan spell with the Toffees last season, making 35 appearances and scoring 4 goals.
Financial Constraints Drive Loan Market Strategy
Everton’s pursuit of loan signings reflects their current financial situation. Earlier this month, Director of Football Kevin Thelwell acknowledged the need to sell players to generate funds and indicated that strengthening the squad would primarily involve utilizing the loan market.
