KATH Labour Unions Reject Petition to Dismiss CEO

Labour unions at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region have strongly opposed a petition calling for the dismissal of their Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah.

The petition, filed by private legal practitioner Kwame Adofo, alleges financial impropriety and procurement violations against Prof. Addai-Mensah. Adofo, who served as KATH’s legal counsel until December 31, 2023, claims to have substantial evidence of the CEO’s financial mismanagement and incompetence.

However, the labour unions have dismissed the allegations as groundless and inaccurate. In a joint statement, they expressed their support for Prof. Addai-Mensah, stating: “We recognize that the allegation against the CEO does not define his character and dedication to the well-being and development of the hospital. We witness what Professor Addai Mensah has achieved since he was appointed as CEO of KATH.”

The unions also expressed their confidence in President Akufo-Addo’s judgment, stating: “We know his excellency, the president of the Republic, has his ears on the ground and knows the appointment of the CEO has positively impacted the hospital.”

The group warned against any attempts to undermine the CEO’s efforts, saying: “We wish to put on record that we shall resist any attempt by any faceless individuals seeking to undermine the effects of the CEO because of parochial interest.”
