MTN Ghana to Scrap Scratch Cards by June 30, 2024

MTN Ghana has announced that it will be phasing out its scratch cards, introduced in 2020, effective June 30, 2024. This means that customers with unused scratch cards will no longer be able to recharge them after July 1, 2024.

According to the Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, Samuel Addo, customers can redeem the value of their scratch cards via credit transfer at any MTN Customer Experience Centre.

The move is part of MTN’s strategy to lead digital solutions in Ghana and beyond, aligning with the Government of Ghana’s digitalization agenda. Addo noted that the phasing out of scratch cards is aimed at protecting the environment, empowering customers to drive digital usage, and making customer service delivery more efficient.

“The phasing out of the scratch cards is one of the avenues to help us protect the environment, empower customers to drive digital usage and make customer service delivery more efficient,” he said.

MTN encouraged customers to continue using existing digital channels, including MoMo, Ayoba, and the myMTN app, to recharge. As part of its commitment to a clean environment, customers enjoy a 50% bonus on all recharges done via Mobile Money.

The phase-out of scratch cards is a significant step towards a more digital and environmentally friendly approach to customer service delivery.
