Hopeson Adorye, a prominent figure in the Movement for Change, finds himself in police custody after confessing to involvement in detonating explosives during the 2016 elections in the Volta Region.
Hopeson Adorye’s arrest, which occurred on Wednesday, May 22, follows revelations made during an interview.
In the interview, Adorye, formerly affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and now serving as the director of special duties for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, claimed participation in a scheme aimed at using dynamite explosions to intimidate voters in the National Democratic Congress stronghold.
He alleged that the tactic was orchestrated by the NPP to influence the election outcome.
Hopeson Adorye described instances where dynamite blasts were used to deter voters in the Volta Region, suggesting that this resulted in decreased voter turnout.
