The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the National Identification Authority (NIA) have signed a landmark agreement to register children aged 6-14 nationwide and issue them with the Ghana Card.
Starting June 10, dedicated registration centers will be set up in schools across the country to facilitate the process. This initiative aims to ensure comprehensive healthcare coverage through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and provide official identification for Ghana’s youth population.
According to NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. DaCosta Aboagye, “This collaboration underscores the government’s commitment to streamlining administrative processes and expanding social services reach. We are dedicated to the successful implementation of this registration drive, which will promote inclusive healthcare and ensure the rights and recognition of Ghana’s youth population.”
NIA Executive Secretary, Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, emphasized the significance of the Ghana Card, stating, “The issuance of Ghana cards to children aged between 6 and 14 years represents a pivotal step in safeguarding their rights and enabling their full participation in society.”
Parents and guardians are urged to participate in the registration process, ensuring their children receive the Ghana Card and gain access to essential healthcare services and official identification.
This joint initiative marks a crucial step towards enhancing the well-being and inclusion of Ghana’s youth population.
