Buaben Asamoa: Hopeson Adorye’s Arrest Is Politically Charged
- Adorye was taken into custody by the police
- Buaben Asamoa accompanied Adorye to the police station
- Adorye's arrest is an attempt to silence the Movement
Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has claimed that the arrest of Hopeson Adorye, a prominent member of the Movement for Change, is politically motivated.
Adorye was taken into custody by the police after claiming he detonated dynamites in the Volta Region during the 2016 General Elections in a radio interview.
According to Buaben Asamoa, Adorye was asked to visit the police headquarters on Wednesday and was later detained.
Buaben Asamoa accompanied Adorye to the police station and stated that Adorye spent the entire day making a statement.
However, around 6 pm, they were informed that Adorye would be detained pending further instructions from above.
Buaben Asamoa believes that Adorye’s arrest is politically motivated, suggesting that the police are awaiting instructions from higher authorities, implying that the arrest is not solely a police decision.
He also thinks that Adorye’s arrest is an attempt to silence the Movement for Change and Adorye, who has been vocal about his opinions.
“This is an attempt to muscle the Movement for Change and silence Hopeson Adorye, who has been speaking out. It won’t work. I strongly believe it’s politically motivated,” Buaben Asamoa said.
Adorye is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
He has not been charged with a crime yet, but the police are investigating a case of publication of false information.
