Buaben Asamoa Accuses Political Agenda Behind Hopeson Adorye’s Arrest

Story Highlights
  • Political motives
  • Allegations of intimidation
  • Detainment and questioning

Buaben Asamoa, a former Member of Parliament for the Adentan constituency and a member of the Movement for Change, has voiced his belief that Hopeson Adorye’s recent arrest is driven by political motives.

Adorye, a prominent figure within the Movement for Change, was apprehended by the police following his statements regarding detonating dynamites in the Volta Region during the 2016 General Elections, made during a widely circulated radio interview in Accra.

Buabeng Asamoa recounted accompanying Adorye to the police headquarters, where he was summoned for questioning.

Despite being asked to provide a statement, Adorye was detained for the entire day, with the situation escalating when authorities indicated he would be held in custody pending further instructions.

Buaben Asamoa alleges that this move is not solely at the discretion of law enforcement, suggesting external influence.

Expressing his conviction that Adorye’s arrest is a concerted effort to stifle dissent within the Movement for Change, Buaben Asamoa suggests that it is an attempt to intimidate Adorye into silence. He asserts that such tactics will not deter their cause, emphasizing his belief in the political underpinnings of the arrest.

Adorye remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court today. While formal charges have yet to be leveled against him, authorities are investigating allegations of disseminating false information.
