Actress Akuapem Poloo has opened up about her deepest regret, revealing that she still grapples with the consequences of posting a nude photo with her son on social media in 2020. In a recent interview on Accra FM, she expressed her lingering worry and concern about how her son will perceive the situation when he grows up.

Akuapem Poloo described the incident as her “only regret” since childhood, emphasizing how the memory continues to haunt her. She acknowledged that her son is now asking questions, and she fears how he will react when he fully understands the situation.

In July 2020, the actress sparked public outrage by sharing a naked photo of herself and her then seven-year-old son on social media to celebrate his birthday. The post was met with widespread criticism, with many accusing her of exploiting and traumatizing her child.

Consequently, Akuapem Poloo faced legal action and was sentenced to three months in prison in April 2021. The Accra High Court ruled that her actions constituted publication of obscene materials, domestic violence, and undermining the privacy and integrity of another person.

Akuapem Poloo pleaded guilty to the charges and was initially sentenced to 90 days in prison. However, she appealed the sentence and was granted bail after spending two days in prison. She was required to pay a fine of Gh¢80,000 with three sureties and deposit her passport at the court’s registry.

In December 2021, the Appeals court imposed a fine of Ghc12,000 on the actress and reversed her 90-day jail term. Despite the legal outcome, Akuapem Poloo still grapples with the emotional aftermath of her actions.

In the interview, she expressed concern about how her son will process the situation when he grows older. As a single mother, she feels the need to prepare herself for the difficult conversation ahead.

Akuapem Poloo’s situation has sparked a broader conversation about parental responsibility, social media ethics, and the long-term impact of our actions on our children.

While Akuapem Poloo’s legal case may have concluded, the emotional and psychological effects of her actions continue to linger, serving as a cautionary tale for parents and social media users alike.

The incident has also highlighted the importance of considering the potential consequences of our actions on our children’s well-being and dignity, as well as the need for responsible social media behavior.
