Mahama Commits to TOR Overhaul if Elected President in 2024

John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has made a firm promise to rejuvenate the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) should he win the presidency in the forthcoming December 7th general elections.

Mahama stressed the necessity of establishing a collaborative partnership between the private and public sectors to revive the nation’s struggling oil refinery.

Speaking at a gathering with stakeholders in the petroleum downstream sector in Accra, he affirmed that TOR would be a top priority under his prospective administration.

“We need to reassess how we can restore the refinery to its former state. However, I believe that the challenges we face in operating the refinery stem from its status as a state-owned enterprise. We are all aware of the inefficiencies associated with state-owned enterprises. Therefore, we are receptive to private partnerships to restore and manage the refinery. Nevertheless, we insist that any private involvement must be subjected to a transparent process,” Mahama emphasized.
