Black Starlets Coach Laryea Kingston Admits Benin Match Was Challenging
- Kingston admitted that the match was far from easy
- The Benin encounter would be a straightforward affair
- The win propels Ghana into the semifinals
Black Starlets head coach Laryea Kingston has revealed that his team faced a stern test against Benin in their second group game at the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations.
Despite scoring two first-half goals to secure a 2-0 win, Kingston admitted that the match was far from easy, contrary to pre-game expectations.
Ghana’s convincing 5-0 victory over Cote d’Ivoire in their opening game had led many to assume that the Benin encounter would be a straightforward affair.
However, Kingston insisted that the game was “very difficult” for his side, crediting their preparation and analysis of Benin’s previous game against Ivory Coast for their success.
“We were very lucky to have seen their game against Ivory Coast, which gave us an advantage in knowing what to expect,” Kingston said. “This tournament has many good teams, and we faced a tough match today.”
The win propels Ghana into the semifinals, alongside Cote d’Ivoire from Group A, as they strive to return to the U-17 AFCON for the first time since 2017.
