The Presidency of Ghana has issued an update following an accident involving President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s convoy, reassuring the public of his safety while sadly confirming the loss of one life.
President Akufo-Addo safely returned to Accra via military aircraft after the incident, which occurred on the Bunso-Akyem Asafo stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway as the convoy was returning from Kumasi. The President had been in Kumasi for various engagements over the weekend.
The statement from the Presidency expressed condolences for the loss of Mr. Kwesi Atta, one of the drivers involved in the accident, and mentioned that several security personnel from the President’s detail sustained injuries. These individuals have received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital and are being transferred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further care.
The accident resulted in significant damage to multiple vehicles in the convoy, but thankfully, the President emerged unharmed.
