Former President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to the church, as the moral compass of society, to speak out on issues surrounding the 2024 electoral process.

He expressed concern over several matters related to the Ejisu by-election and the ongoing limited voter registration exercise, urging the church to address these issues.

During an interaction with the Christian Ecumenical Council on Monday, former President Mahama emphasized the need for the church to advocate for neutrality and ensure a free and fair election.

He highlighted the critical role the church plays in upholding democratic principles and promoting justice within the electoral framework.

‘This is a president who is appointing politically exposed individuals to positions of trust, where they are supposed to be neutral and non-partisan.

How can we expect them to be neutral and fair? People who were once party communicators and IT backstops are now Electoral Commission Commissioners. We need to awaken the nation’s conscience to ensure the right thing is done, so the outcome reflects the will of the people.’

‘As we approach the election, we will continue to play our part and raise red flags when things go awry. We believe the church community should also remain vigilant and ensure the right thing is done.’

Former President Mahama emphasized the importance of the church’s moral voice in promoting a free and fair electoral process.
