“Lands Commission Advocates for Gender Equality”

The Lands Commission has called for advocacy for female representation on land committees. This call was made during a stakeholders’ engagement on gender equality in land governance in Accra.

The Commission noted that women’s participation in land governance is crucial for effective land management and development. However, women are underrepresented on land committees, which are responsible for making decisions on land use and management.

The Lands Commission emphasized that the lack of female representation on land committees has led to a lack of gender perspective in land governance, resulting in women’s rights being overlooked. The Commission therefore urged stakeholders to advocate for female representation on land committees to ensure that women’s rights are protected and their interests are represented.

The stakeholders’ engagement brought together representatives from various organizations, including civil society groups, government agencies, and traditional authorities. The participants discussed the challenges facing women in accessing and owning land, and the need for gender-sensitive land governance policies and practices.

The Lands Commission also highlighted the importance of capacity building and training for women to enable them to participate effectively in land governance. The Commission emphasized that gender equality in land governance is essential for achieving sustainable development and reducing poverty.
