Fuel Explosion in Sekondi-Takoradi Leaves Two Dead, 14 Injured

A tragedy has befallen the Egyiresia community near Sekondi, where two out of the 16 individuals injured in a recent fire incident have tragically passed away due to their injuries.

The fire outbreak occurred on Saturday, May 18, around 4 pm, initiated by leaking premix fuel igniting with flames from a nearby fish smoking facility.

Gabriel Ato Mensah, the Assembly Member for Ngyiresia-Mpasem,said the two deceased victims, 15-year-old Joseph Adom and 7-year-old Justice Dadzie, were undergoing treatment at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi.

Additionally, two more injured individuals were transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.

Gabriel Ato Mensah reported, “We had 16 victims, 11 males and 5 females. Thirteen were taken to Effia-Nkwanta for treatment, while three were taken to Saint Benedict Hospital at Inchaban. Two victims, Joseph Adom, 15 years old, and Isaac Blankson, 55 years old, were taken to the theatre. Later, we sadly learned of Joseph Adom’s passing. Subsequently, we lost another victim, Justice Dadzie, a seven-year-old. Currently, one patient, Isaac Blankson, has been transported to Korle Bu, and we are arranging for another patient to receive further treatment there.”
