- Key issues on the agenda
Parliament is set to reconvene today for an emergency session, following a petition by the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin. The session aims to address pressing government business, including key financial agreements and tax exemptions.
The recall was initiated after Afenyo-Markin directed a letter to the Speaker, citing Article 112(3) and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers 15% of House members to request Parliament’s recall.
According to sources, the Majority Caucus has identified several priority items for consideration, including an additional financing agreement between the Government of Ghana and the International Development Association (IDA) for $150 million to finance the ongoing Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project. Additionally, the caucus will consider a request for tax exemption for selected beneficiaries under the One District, One Factory (1D1F) Programme.
The emergency session is expected to tackle these critical issues, ensuring progress on key government initiatives. With the recall, Parliament is poised to address outstanding business and move forward on crucial projects.
