The government has urged journalists to prioritize climate change coverage, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and advocacy to protect the environment.

Speaking on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the 3rd African Media Convention in Accra, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare encouraged journalists to take a lead role in highlighting the impact of human activities on the environment and promoting sustainable practices.

The convention, which brought together journalists and media professionals from across Africa, focused on promoting press freedom, access to information, and media viability.

Osei-Opare noted that climate change denial is no longer tenable in the face of escalating environmental disasters caused by human activities.

Churchill Otieno, Chairperson of the AMC Steering Committee, stressed the importance of courageous and innovative journalism in the face of censorship, harassment, and misinformation.

Albert Dwumfuor, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, highlighted Ghana’s improvement on the World Press Freedom Index as a collaborative effort between the government and journalists.

Additionally, Information Minister-Designate Fatimatu Abubakar announced plans for the government to collaborate with social media influencers to combat misinformation and disinformation.”
