Story Highlights

  • Suspect Benlord Ababio arrested and in police custody.
  • Police investigating circumstances surrounding the killing.

Another suspect, Nana Kofi Amo, has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the killing of a soldier at Millennium City, Kasoa, in the Central Region.

The suspect was arraigned before court alongside Benlord Ababio, also known as Nana Barima Ababio, a self-acclaimed traditional ruler who allegedly shot and killed the soldier on April 30, 2024.

According to the prosecution’s brief fact, the deceased, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, was a military officer stationed at the Army Base Workshop at Burma Camp.

On April 30, 2024, at about 4 pm, the deceased, together with his two colleagues, went to Millennium City Police Station to report a case of trespass on a parcel of land belonging to one of them.

However, upon arrival at the police station, the accused, Benlord Ababio, appeared and opened fire on Lance Corporal Michael Danso, who was driving a Toyota RAV4 vehicle, killing him instantly.

The accused was immediately disarmed and arrested, and was subsequently arraigned before court to be remanded pending further investigations.

The plea of the two suspects has been reserved by the court, which remanded them for two weeks following a request by the police for further investigation.

The court denied bail applications by counsels for the accused persons, holding that it does not have jurisdiction to grant bail in murder cases.

The prosecution opposed the bail applications, arguing that the accused persons would interfere with investigations, and that their lives are in danger if granted bail.

The case was adjourned to May 30, 2024, as the prosecution prepares to prove its case against the two accused persons.
