Kumasi Market Traders Threaten Occupation

Furious vendors at Kumasi Central Market have issued an ultimatum to the construction company.

They vow to occupy the unfinished market area with their wares by Sunday, May 19th, unless all barriers are removed.

This drastic action is a response to what traders call unacceptable delays in completing the market’s second phase.

Emelia Koffie Asare, Secretary of the Combined Kumasi Central Market Union, spoke to the media, expressing their deep frustration with the government.

Traders blame the Akufo-Addo administration for neglecting their needs and failing to finish the project on time.

The ongoing construction disrupts their businesses due to cramped and uncomfortable conditions.

Asare further stated that the government has ignored their pleas and missed promised completion dates.

The project’s delay is attributed to renegotiating a loan agreement after Ghana sought financial assistance from the IMF.
