In the kickoff match of the 2024 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Championship, Ghana’s Black Starlets showcased their prowess by securing an impressive 5-1 win against Cote D’ Ivoire.
Played at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, this victory sets Ghana on a promising path towards qualification for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Ghanaian side, led by Coach Laryea Kingston, displayed exceptional skill and determination throughout the game. Joseph Narbi opened the scoring for the Starlets 27 minutes into the game and later added another goal just before halftime.
The momentum continued in the second half, with Godfred Sarpong extending Ghana’s lead with a goal in the 48th minute.
Although Ivory Coast managed to pull one back in the 50th minute, Ghana remained in control. Harve Gbafa further solidified Ghana’s dominance with a goal in the 53rd minute, followed by Mark Mensah sealing the victory with a goal in extra time.
With this commanding performance, Ghana now sits atop Group A and looks forward to their upcoming match against Benin.
