A 29-year-old taxi driver named Franklin Mensah has been apprehended by authorities for his alleged involvement in the death of his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter in Ashaiman.

Reports indicate that Mensah purportedly struck the young child following her unintentional destruction of his phone.

The heartbreaking incident transpired on May 3, 2024, in Ashaiman.

Joy James, the mother of the deceased and a waitress, entrusted her daughter to Mensah’s care on that fateful day. Despite the toddler’s persistent pleas to accompany her mother, James opted to leave her in Mensah’s supervision.

In an endeavor to soothe the distressed child, Mensah handed her his mobile device to play with. However, the child accidentally dropped the phone, causing irreparable damage.

Infuriated by the turn of events, Mensah purportedly seized the toddler, resulting in her loss of consciousness.

Efforts were made to rush the child to Tema General Hospital, but tragically, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Following notification from concerned neighbors, Joy promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to Mensah’s apprehension.

Mensah was brought before the Ashaiman District Court on Monday to face charges of murder. He was remanded by the court presided over by His Worship Derrick Parden Eshun and is slated to appear again in two weeks.

The investigation into this harrowing case continues.
