- GH¢177m released for nursing trainees
- Funds to be disbursed on Thursday, ending months of arrears
- Move fulfills Akufo-Addo administration's promise to reinstate nursing trainee allowance
Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia announced on Wednesday that the government has released GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to settle outstanding allowances owed to nursing trainees nationwide.
The move comes after months of arrears in the payment of the nursing trainee allowance, which was reinstated by the Akufo-Addo administration after being previously abolished.
Addressing a gathering of nurses and midwives in Accra, Dr. Bawumia revealed that the funds would be disbursed on Thursday. “This Thursday, the Controller is transferring GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the nursing training allowances. So I have also alerted Dr. Okoe-Boye to be on standby when the money hits the Ministry of Health account, they should move it quickly to the accounts of the nursing trainees so that they will have their allowance. It will drop.
So I believe that Insha Allah, by next week, all of you should be receiving the nursing training allowances, and they will be in you accounts.
The NPP Flagbearer’s announcement energized his interaction with the youth, as the nurses among them openly jubilated, chanting Dr Bawumia’s name in appreciation.
Dr Bawumia’s announcement is expected to be met with similar excitement on various campuses across the country, as the nusing training allowance is a crucial stipend for many trainees.
