Ghanaian Highlife musician Nana Agyemang has made a shocking revelation about his unfair treatment by the Ghana Music Awards scheme. In an exclusive interview with Ohemaa Acheampomaa on Onua FM’s Gh Highlife show, Nana Agyemang revealed that he received five nominations for the Ghana Music Awards after releasing his hit song “Araba”.

The song was a massive success, topping charts across the country, and many expected him to win an award. However, Nana Agyemang was denied an award despite his song’s popularity.

According to Nana Agyemang, he received a call from an insider from the Ghana Music Awards requesting a bribe to guarantee an award. He refused to pay, and despite his song’s success, he was denied an award.

Nana Agyemang shared that the song’s success was unprecedented, entering the top 20 charts at number one, a feat difficult to achieve at the time. He was nominated in various categories, but after refusing to pay the bribe, the scheme attributed his loss to supposed “inappropriate” words in his song.

Nana Agyemang questioned the inconsistency, asking how the song was nominated if it contained vulgar words. He concluded that he was not treated fairly by the Ghana Music Awards scheme.

The highlife legend noted that he had just relocated from Kumasi to Accra and was ignorant about the real meaning of the “brown envelope” (a euphemism for bribe). He had nothing to offer, and his inability to pay the bribe cost him the award.

Nana Agyemang’s experience is a shocking revelation about the Ghana Music Awards scheme, and it raises questions about the fairness and integrity of the awards.

Currently, Nana Agyemang is promoting his new song, “Behwe womma”, featuring Kwabena Sunkwa. Despite the unfair treatment, he continues to produce great music, and his fans are eagerly awaiting his next release.
