While Chelsea secured a victory against Tottenham last week, manager Mauricio Pochettino has downplayed the end-of-season rumors surrounding his future at the club.
He emphasized the need for mutual agreement, stating that both he and the ownership must be “happy” for him to stay on.
“The club is building,” Pochettino said, “and everyone’s performance is being evaluated.”
While Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has expressed optimism about the club’s future, Pochettino is clear that discussions at the end of the season will involve his perspective as well.
“If everyone’s content, then fantastic,” he stated. “But it’s a two-way street. We need to be happy too. If we’re not, we’ll accept the situation and move on.”
Pochettino highlighted the possibility of a mutual parting, emphasizing that such decisions aren’t uncommon in football.
“We all have a say,” he said. “Maybe we haven’t achieved what we set out to do, but that doesn’t mean I’m unhappy.”
Pochettino concluded by suggesting that a potential departure wouldn’t be a major setback. “It wouldn’t be the end of the world,” he said.
Chelsea currently sits at seventh place in the Premier League. They face Nottingham Forest and Brighton before wrapping up the season against Bournemouth at home.
