Guru Announces Bid for University of Ghana SRC Presidency
Renowned rapper Guru, born Maradona Yeboah Adjei, has officially launched his campaign to contest for the Student Representative Council (SRC) presidency at the University of Ghana.
Guru took to his social media platforms to welcome returning students to school, declaring his intention to run for the top student leadership position. “Dear Legonites, I’m thrilled to have you back in school. Let’s kick off this semester with positivity and enthusiasm! MARADONA YEBOAH ADJEI (GURU -NKZ) UGSRC PRESIDENT HOPEFUL’24. #Building the SRC with Everyone for everyone #Let’s all get involved,” he captioned his post.
This announcement comes weeks after Guru revealed his intention to contest in the university’s SRC elections. In a recent interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, the rapper shared his passion for contributing to the university community. “Not only has going to study at the university been my dream, but I had always wanted to make a contribution to the institution in any way I could,” he said.
Guru highlighted his academic achievements and his prior collaborations with the SRC on various projects, including hall week celebrations. Despite facing challenges, he remains committed to doing more for the institution while pursuing his studies.
This is not the first time an artiste has shown interest in school politics. In 2022, Reggae/Dancehall artiste Samini contested and won the SRC elections at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), becoming the President of the SRC in August that year.
