GHS Warns: COVID-19 Still Here, Get Vaccinated

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has rejected assertions of COVID-19 being declared over, emphasizing the ongoing presence of the virus. Despite progress, the country recorded 31 new cases last week, prompting renewed caution.

Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, the Programmes Manager at the Expanded Programme on Immunization within the GHS, stressed the importance of utilizing vaccination centers and receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. He highlighted that while the emergency phase may have shifted, COVID-19 management remains crucial, urging continued adherence to preventive measures.

“COVID-19 is still a threat, and it’s vital not to perceive it as a thing of the past. Although the pandemic’s emergency phase has evolved, it has never been officially declared over. Our approach has shifted from strict lockdowns to managing the virus and vaccination efforts. Therefore, it’s imperative that we maintain precautions such as wearing masks in enclosed spaces and prioritizing hand hygiene until we can declare an end to COVID-19.”
