1D1F program creates 170,000 jobs-Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed that the One District, One Factory (1D1F) program has facilitated the creation of 170,000 jobs through operational enterprises. His announcement came during a visit to Blue Skies Ltd in Nsawam, Eastern Region, where he lauded the company’s commitment to value addition, a principle that resonates with the 1D1F initiative.
The 1D1F policy, a cornerstone of the Akufo-Addo administration, seeks to foster grassroots industrialization by establishing industrial ventures in each district of Ghana. In a Facebook post following the event, President Akufo-Addo expressed pride in the development of 321 1D1F projects, comprising 211 new medium to large scale enterprises and 110 existing enterprises empowered through capital injections for expansion and diversification.
These ventures span 142 districts across all 16 regions, achieving 54% district coverage. The ultimate goal is to extend 1D1F projects to every district, with a focus on job creation. President Akufo-Addo envisions a shift from Ghana’s raw material-dependent economy to one centered on manufacturing, value addition, and export of processed goods, utilizing locally available resources that would otherwise go to waste.
The 1D1F initiative is primarily private sector-driven, with the government providing a conducive environment for businesses to access funding and support services from financial institutions and government agencies. Ghanaian entrepreneurs are encouraged to establish and operate these factories, assuming both risks and rewards.
President Akufo-Addo’s vision for 1D1F aims to transform Ghana’s economic landscape, fostering sustainable industrial growth and reducing dependency on imports while boosting exports of value-added products.
