Ghana, China Boost Cooperation
Ghana’s Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, met with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Lu Kun, on May 3rd in Accra. The meeting focused on strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
Minister Quartey emphasized the importance of a secure and stable Ghana for economic development. He expressed his appreciation for China’s past support in training and capacity building programs for the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies. These programs, he said, have significantly improved the skills and knowledge of Ghanaian security personnel.
The Minister also acknowledged the positive contributions of Chinese companies operating in Ghana. He highlighted their role in creating jobs, boosting the economy, and providing training and skills development opportunities for Ghanaians. Additionally, he commended China’s scholarship programs, which have enabled many Ghanaian students to pursue higher education in China.
Quartey further requested China’s continued support through tailored training programs for the Ministry of Interior and its agencies. These programs, he believes, would further enhance the skills and expertise of Ghanaian personnel.
Ambassador Lu expressed satisfaction with the positive impact of Chinese companies and the peaceful environment in Ghana. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s development and pledged to work with relevant authorities to deliver the requested training programs.
Both parties expressing a strong desire to continue working together for the mutual benefit of their citizens. This courtesy call signifies a significant step forward in strengthening the diplomatic ties between Ghana and China.
