Dumsor will not affect Limited Voter Registration Exercise – Jean Mensa

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has announced measures to counteract the effects of power outages (dumsor) on the Limited Voter Registration Exercise.

At a press briefing on Monday, May 6, 2024, Mensa revealed that generators will be on standby at all district offices to ensure uninterrupted registration during power outages. Additionally, an offline mode for voter registration has been introduced, where details will be stored on a pen drive for processing once power is restored.

“We have made arrangements to ensure that dumsor does not disrupt the registration process. All district officers have been instructed to rent generators to use during power outages,” She explained.

“In the event of an unexpected power outage, we will switch to offline mode, where voters’ details will be stored on a pen drive and processed once power returns, ensuring minimal disruption to the registration process.”

The Limited Voter Registration Exercise will take place at all 258 district offices of the Electoral Commission, as well as 785 additional centers to facilitate access for those living far from district offices. Furthermore, 25 public universities will serve as registration locations.
