Parts of Accra flooded after Torrential Rain

Accra was hit by another devastating flood on Monday morning, following a torrential downpour that left many residents stranded and soaked. The deluge caused severe congestion on roads, affecting numerous corporate workers, traders, students, and motorists who were forced to navigate through the treacherous waters.

In areas such as Pokuase, Achimota, Odawna, Tesano, and Alajo, motorists were compelled to pull over along the roadside, seeking refuge from the relentless rain. The usually busy vehicles were lined up in an immovable trail of traffic, with many having to abandon their vehicles and walk to their destinations, slowing the zeal to face the second week of May.

Sadly, it has become the norm for Accra to be submerged in floodwaters, even after the slightest drizzle of rain. The city’s drainage systems are often choked with plastics, wrappers, and cans, overflowing with rubbish and raising the potential for an outbreak.

To make matters worse, many have taken advantage of the flooding to dump their garbage into the waters, to be carried away.

In a disturbing scene captured on camera, a supposed resident was seen having his rubbish bin completely immersed in the flood, disposing of his garbage. This may not be the first or probably the last instance, given the chronic issue of poor waste management in the city.
