The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) held a press briefing to showcase their commitment to hosting a successful 3rd African Media Convention (AMC).

GJA President, Albert Kawbena Dwumfour, expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian government, particularly President Akufo-Addo, for their unwavering support. This includes financial backing and logistical assistance to ensure a memorable experience for participants.

“The President’s assurance significantly boosted our morale,” Dwumfour said, commending the government’s role. He also extended congratulations to the newly appointed Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar, for her contributions to the Local Organizing Committee’s (LOC) efforts.

Dwumfour emphasized the significance of the AMC, highlighting its potential to shape the future of African media and foster collaboration across the continent. He described the event as a “refreshing platform” that can have a substantial impact on the media landscape.

Ghana’s hosting of the AMC is a testament to its growing stature as a prime conference destination in Africa. Dwumfour pointed out the country’s successful execution of global events like World Press Freedom Day and AU/ECOWAS summits.

The convention, spearheaded by the African Editors’ Forum (TAEF), aims to champion press freedom, journalist safety, and combat misinformation, particularly on social media platforms that threaten democracy.

Dwumfour elaborated on Ghana’s bid for hosting rights, secured during the 2nd AMC held in Lusaka, Zambia, in May 2023.

Underscoring their preparedness, Dwumfour assured everyone that the GJA and LOC are fully equipped to handle the event. He mentioned strong government backing and detailed planning sessions covering production, protocols, security, and subcommittee progress.

“We are confident and prepared for the 3rd AMC in Accra,” Dwumfour declared, highlighting the impressive registration numbers exceeding their initial goals.

With over 600 international and 400 local participants already registered, the high turnout reflects the excitement surrounding this landmark event.
