The High Court of Ghana has authorized the issuance of an arrest warrant for Sedina Christine Attionu Tamakloe, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), who was recently convicted in absentia.
Following Tamakloe’s failure to return to Ghana after a medical leave abroad, state prosecutors requested the warrant, with Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah expressing determination to pursue her extradition for the completion of her 10-year sentence.
Tamakloe, along with her former colleague Daniel Axim, was found guilty on 78 charges, including financial misconduct such as causing loss to the state, theft, conspiracy, money laundering, and violations of public procurement laws, stemming from irregularities at MASLOC during the period from 2013 to 2016.
The convictions were based on various instances of financial mismanagement, including the withdrawal of a GH₵500,000 loan with an exorbitant interest rate demand, misappropriation of over GH¢1.7 million earmarked for a MASLOC event, inadequate distribution of funds meant for fire victims, and procurement irregularities involving inflated prices for vehicles and phones.
While Axim testified during the trial, Tamakloe absconded following her granted permission for a medical check-up, prompting the issuance of the arrest warrant by the court.
