Give Women Leadership Positions, they are Competent- Otumfuo
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has mounted a campaign against gender disparity, calling for inclusivity in the allocation of various leadership positions in the country.
Speaking at the Queen Mothers’ Day and Food Fair, one of the events slated to mark his 25th enstoolment anniversary at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, April 22, 2024, His Majesty called for concerted and deliberate effort in ensuring gender equality in the country.
He stated that women are more competent and efficient at their positions compared to men and urged political parties, institutions and corporations to create the needed atmosphere and opportunities for women to ascend leadership positions.
He posited that with women at the helm of affairs, the country would thrive and develop as they are compassionate and trade-savvy.
“Women are efficient compared to men. Politicians should create the atmosphere for women because women are compassionate. Rwanda High Commissioner came to pay me a courtesy visit few days ago. He told me women are more than men in Parliament as well as in cabinet. I reflected on Ghana when I heard it.
“Women must be afforded the chance to take leadership position to ensure development. They are naturally good at business and trade and they are abreast with household issues which would help incorporate all these factors in formulating policies. All political parties must give women the chance. Women must be given the chance to head various public agencies and entreprises in the country.”
The event on Monday saw both rare and popular Asante traditional meals on display at the Manhyia Palace.
Some meals that were prepared included, fufu and abunuabunu soup, ogoo, ofam, mpotompoto and nuhu.
