A terrifying ordeal for a family in Walewale, North East Region, ended with a swift arrest and conviction. A 27-year-old woman, Abdulai Zalia, is facing two years in prison after snatching a 13-month-old baby from its sleeping mother.

The incident unfolded when the baby’s father returned home late and discovered the child missing. The distraught couple immediately alerted the police. Thankfully, the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) responded quickly.

They were able to locate the stolen baby and apprehend Zalia on the very same day.

Zalia appeared in court on April 19, 2024, and pleaded guilty to the abduction charge. According to her confession, she acted with an accomplice named Rahi. The judge, His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako, sentenced Zalia to two years imprisonment.

While details are still emerging, some community members claim Zalia may have mental health issues and a history of theft.
