A 29-year-old woman named Philomena Owusu is currently fighting for her life in critical condition, while her 9-month-old daughter tragically succumbed to injuries after being bathed in acid by her husband.
The perpetrator, identified as 35-year-old Enoch Mensah, is currently evading authorities following this appalling incident, which took place in Gomoa Pomadze, located within the Gomoa Central district of the Central Region.
Reports indicate that the couple had been embroiled in conflicts both before and after the pregnancy, with the latest dispute revolving around rent payment issues. According to the victim’s sister, Portia Owusu, tensions escalated when the landlord initiated eviction proceedings due to unpaid rent.
During a heated altercation over this matter, Enoch allegedly returned to the residence shortly after, dousing Philomena and the infant with acid. Portia described hearing her sister’s screams before discovering both victims covered in acid burns.
Emergency responders rushed them to Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, but despite efforts, the infant did not survive the attack. Philomena, however, remains in critical condition and has since been transferred to Korle-bu Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.
