UENR Student Shot Dead By Armed Robbers After Returning From Field Trip

In a tragic event, a fourth-year student at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Abdul Aziz Issah Zamani, was killed after being attacked by armed robbers. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 17th, 2024, at around 7 p.m. as the student was returning from a field trip to the Bui Power Authority along with a group of around 300 to 400 other BSc Renewable Energy Engineering students.

The UENR administration confirmed the student’s death in a statement signed by Deputy Registrar Alfred Appiah. The statement expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and informed the public about the incident.

According to the statement, the group of students was targeted by armed robbers while returning from their field trip. The robbers attacked the students, and unfortunately, one student lost his life during the incident.

The remaining students were fortunate to escape unharmed and received medical attention after the attack. They are currently undergoing counseling to help them cope with the traumatic experience.

The UENR administration urged residents in the area where the incident happened to report any suspicious individuals to the police as soon as possible. This would assist the authorities in apprehending the criminals involved in the attack.

The Sunyani Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the robbery. It is unclear if this is the only suspect involved or if there are others still at large.

The identity of the deceased student has not been released yet. The university is providing support to the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
