Ghana Strengthens Wildlife Protections With New Law

Ghana’s wildlife resources now have a stronger legal framework with the passage of the Wildlife Resources Management Act, 2024 (Act 1115).

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo signed the Act into law on March 1, 2024, following its approval by Parliament on July 28, 2023.

This legislation replaces outdated regulations that had been in place for over 50 years.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, highlighted the importance of the new Act.

He explained that it addresses gaps in previous laws, incorporates modern wildlife management practices, and aligns with Ghana’s national and international commitments to sustainable resource management.

Act 1115 offers several key improvements:

Minister Jinapor assured the public that the Ministry is committed to effectively implementing the Act. He emphasized that strict adherence to this new law will ensure the efficient and sustainable conservation of Ghana’s valuable wildlife resources.
